As wooden floors are becoming more popular I have chosen a tip for those of you who have varnished floors in your home or office. Sometimes you will see these described as polyurethane finishes. As usual, maintenance is fairly straightforward, but requires a little more care and attention to detail.
Routine Cleaning: use the manufacturers recommended cleaning system. If they do not make a recommendation, use a cleaner that will not leave a residue that will involve recoating the floor finish. Always follow the instructions carefully when diluting a cleaner with water. Generally do not wet a wooden floor, even one that is varnished. Never wax a polyurethane finish.
Spillage: An absorbent cloth wetted with water and squeezed almost dry can be used to wipe spills provided the area is buffed dry immediately. If the spillage is serious, such as the recent floods, mop up as much as possible as quickly as you can and then call us for a free inspection. We can then advise you of the best course of action.
Longer Term Maintenance: Inevitably, varnished floors will eventually show wear & tear patterns from scratching. When the floor starts to look dull, especially in high traffic areas it is time to recoat or restore the finish. We recommend that this work is only undertaken by a professional.
If you are interested in wooden replacement floors we have a wonderful range of real woods and laminates at our showroom in Knowle, so pop in and see us. If you prefer call us and arrange an appointment and I, or a colleague, will bring some samples to your home or office. Either way, once we have measured the rooms we will provide you an immediate quotation, without charge and obligation. We currently have some superb oak flooring at very special low prices, so call us while it is still available.

Steve
